The most dangerous knife in your kitchen is the blunt one. It does not bite the food, so you push, and when it finally goes it goes somewhere you were not planning.
Two grits, one on each face. The coarse side rebuilds an edge that has gone. The fine side polishes it back to something that falls through a tomato under its own weight. Non-slip base, so the stone stays where you put it.
Soak it, do not oil it. Ten minutes in water before you start.
