What we are aiming at
We are working to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA. That is the standard the Americans with Disabilities Act is read against, and it is the one we hold ourselves to.
What is already true
- Every image and every film carries a text alternative describing what it shows.
- The whole page can be driven from a keyboard, in a sensible order, with a visible focus ring on whatever is selected.
- Body text meets or beats a 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio against its background, and headings meet 3 to 1.
- Nothing plays sound on its own. The looping films are silent, and the one film with speech has to be started by you.
- Motion respects the reduced motion setting in your operating system. Switch it on and the animation stops.
- Text can be resized to two hundred percent without anything being cut off, and the page reflows on a narrow screen without a sideways scrollbar.
- Headings run in real order, buttons are real buttons, and dialogs trap and then restore focus properly.
Where we know we fall short
This is a heavily filmed page and moving picture is central to how it explains the knife. The looping clips are decorative and marked as such so a screen reader skips them, but if you cannot see them you are getting a description rather than the demonstration itself. We would rather admit that than claim a parity we have not earned.
